On a cold December morning in Ohio, an ordinary man did something extraordinary—and the world can’t stop talking about it.

Gregory, a gentle Beagle with soft brown eyes, had only two days left to live. Despite his heartworm disease—a condition that’s easily treatable but misunderstood—he was on the “put to sleep” list at Franklin County Animal Shelter. Alone, scared, and abandoned, Gregory had almost given up hope.
But then, a hero appeared.
Joe Kirk, co-founder of the “Hound Rescue and Sanctuary” in Findlay, Ohio, heard Gregory’s story and dropped everything to save him. With his wife Schenley by his side, Joe rushed to the shelter, determined to give this sweet dog a second chance.
The moment Gregory realized he was safe, something magical happened. Overwhelmed with gratitude, the Beagle wrapped his tiny paws around Joe in the tightest, most heartwarming hug you’ve ever seen. In that instant, it was clear: dogs have feelings, and Gregory knew his life had just been saved.
Joe and Schenley didn’t just rescue Gregory—they gave him the promise of a new beginning. Despite his health challenges, they showered him with love, medical care, and the safety he’d always dreamed of. Their nonprofit, “Hound Rescue and Sanctuary,” is dedicated to giving lost and abandoned dogs a second chance, refusing to let any innocent animal be forgotten.
Gregory’s story didn’t end at the shelter door. Not long after his rescue, he found his forever family—a loving home where he’s treated like royalty. He spends his days soaking up cuddles, playing with toys, and giving endless kisses to his new humans. The scars of his past are fading, replaced by pure joy and endless tail wags.
For Joe and Schenley, saving Gregory was more than just another rescue. “We know we can’t save them all,” Joe says, “but saving even one makes all the difference.”
Gregory’s journey from death row to a happy home is proof that kindness can change the world—one grateful hug at a time.
Thank you, Joe and Schenley, for reminding us that every life is worth saving. Here’s to many more years of love, happiness, and doggy kisses.
